Joshua: God who stood still Chapter 6

A harlot, a scarlet braided rope tied to a window, a vow to fulfill and a promise to keep. Like the old-fashioned 007 Bond film makes your pulse leap!

Her name is Rahab.

Of all the people and households to choose from, why would God choose a woman, a sinner and full of filth household of brothel practicing worldly pleasures?

God implied a strong message here. God saves the sinner and spares all household who forsakes the world, & obeys the Lord who helps His chosen ones. As opposed to the Egyptians they did not listen and hardened their hearts to their slaves. So God struck them, that it would be hard or would never recover from their plagues.

Rahab even though a non-believer, a sinner, and not a chosen one, melts in fear about their God. Rahab carefully quoted and reminded these spies what God did to them and truly believed God would deliver Jericho to become their masters and victors. Rahab asked them for a blessing for their entire household and trusted their God for protection and salvation.

This is a sweet moment for God. For someone in this city of Jericho reveres His name and carries the fear of the Lord not common to the residents in Jericho. She is a woman that God carried and saved despite being an outsider as she vows to help, God honored and fulfilled her and her household to be partakers of the promised land.

If there is a woman God admires, it must be Rahab. A harlot in her sinner days but did not think twice about protecting God's Meraglims to take Jericho. She was loyal to this God whom she may have never really known but probably have simply heard and had fear of the Lord in her heart. She and her household were saved on time and spared after the Lord took the devoted land and spoils of Jericho. She became a "great exception."

Again, this is the lesson of obedience and fear of the Lord wisdom. It is always better to obey than to sacrifice. It is better to fulfil a vow and keep the promise and wait for God in patience and reverence. The "fear of the Lord" is the main source of wisdom here. It is where God accepted a sinner and saved this woman and her household from eternal damnation.
